International Repatriations
The repatriation of a deceased individual outside of Europe is predominantly conducted via air travel.
It is possible to transport a deceased person to almost all major capital airports worldwide, as well as numerous other major city airports in specific countries.
It is essential to always adhere to the prevailing import regulations of the country where the deceased will be interred. In many countries, it is a requirement for the deceased person to undergo embalming (preservation). Each repatriation must be carried out using an airtight and leak-proof casket or a similar container, unless the deceased has been cremated. It is mandatory to provide a medical certificate confirming that the deceased was not infected with contagious diseases that could hinder their import into the country where they will be laid to rest.
We offer guidance on consular matters and assist in obtaining all necessary documents.

When utilizing air transport for repatriation, we strongly recommend paying close attention to the overall weight, as most airlines calculate flight expenses based on the transported weight. The choice of casket can significantly impact costs, as high-quality, and consequently costly caskets tend to have greater weight. Opting for a simpler, lighter casket can potentially result in substantial savings on flight expenses. The funds saved can then be used to purchase a locally appropriate casket at the burial location.
Note
Transfers within the EU / Germany
The repatriation of a deceased individual within Europe is typically carried out to neighboring countries of Germany, primarily by hearse, but it can also be conducted by air travel.
When using a hearse, the deceased is usually transported directly to a local funeral home or cemetery. If the repatriation is done by air, all EU capital airports, as well as many other major city airports in individual countries, can be used to transport the deceased.

A medical certificate confirming that the deceased was not infected with contagious diseases that would make the import into the country where the deceased will be buried impossible is always required. Additionally, other documents may be necessary to permit transport with a hearse within a foreign country's territory.
